The Fisherman

Greg Duenas Perez was a respected sportfisherman who caught a World Record Pacific Blue Marlin weighing 1,153 pounds on August 21, 1969. This record held for 13 years but continues to be the record weight for Pacific Blue Marlin for Guam and the Marianas. The replica of the marlin is located at the Guam International Airport, and the Guam Museum houses the original Marlin. In 1998, the 24th Guam Legislature unanimously voted to rename the Agana Basin, the “Gregorio Duenas Perez Marina”. Greg continues to be remembered and respected by the business, boating and fishing communities for his generosity, knowledge and skill, respect for the ocean, and for the sportsmanship like qualities he possessed.
